Lovely photo.
How did you catch it without any people on the steps?
Whenever we visit, there is always a lot of tourists around. Especially on the 15th August when the pilgrims climb the 68 steps up to the church on their knees !
Here are details of an interesting walk down from Monte to Funchal
There is a levada walk to Monte as well, visiting the Jasmin Tea Rooms on the way. We have done that walk a couple of times, but I can't find a link for it :-(
